The Pope’s Concert – a massive stadium extravaganza to celebrate Pope Francis’ visit to Ireland in 2018. Two thousand singers, musicians, dancers, performers and choir members including Andrea Bocelli, Patrick Bergin and Moya Brennan came together to stage a magical show in Croke Park. One highlight has to be Pope Francis listening to Shaun Davey’s Deer’s Cry while watching the moment of the Big Bang explosion on the massive screens.

The GAA have been at the heart of Irish culture since the 1880s as an inspirational driving force for the nation. It is one of the most extraordinary moments of my creative life to have witnessed a packed stadium of 82,000 moved to great emotion and even tears by this pageant show celebrating 100 years of Irish independence.

With Chris Fitzpatrick, we forged the script for this play entirely from the poems of 40 poets among them Mary Borden, W.B Yeats, Ivor Gurney, Seamus Heaney, Thomas Kettle and David Jones. Commemorating the First World War and the 1916 Rising, the play reminds us of the tragedy of war.
An RTÉ Production
We produced two films for the wonderful show staged in the Bórd Gais Theatre, including Proclamation which features Aobh Magan joining 20 members of the Irish Diaspora around the world proclaiming the 1916 Proclamation.
